Ivy+ Event: Situational Awareness: Staying Safe in an Unsafe World
Why Situational Awareness is Important: Situational Awareness (Zanshin in Japanese) is the thing which likely kept all of our ancestors alive at one time or another.
***Note: THIS EVENT HAS BEEN CANCELLED***
The world is neither completely safe nor completely hostile, and the “threat level” moves along that continuum as you go about your day and move from place to place. Think about it - when you are at the mall, walking in a parking lot to your car, or just walking around town, in what state of awareness are you? Do you notice the people and objects in close proximity, or if they are focused on you? Or are you focused on your Smartphone, engrossed in a conversation, or listening to music on your headphones and not really noticing much else?
The goal of this seminar is to give participants a greater sense of not just levels of awareness and what is appropriate and when, but also give you some critical concepts for managing threats. These include the Gracie Jiu Jitsu concepts of:
- Distance management
- Conflict de-escalation
- When you must physically engage an aggressor
Who can benefit? Adults and late teens of all fitness levels who are interested in learning how to better ensure their own safety and that of their family and friends.
